Safety Lighting in Places of Assembly

Careful consideration must be given to the importance of proving sufficient lighting in places of assembly to comply with the N.F.P.A.( life safety code) the code requires that a minimum of 0.2 foot candles of illumination to be provided onto all floor area's during period of performances.

Some of the Requirements are as follows:

A: In assembly occupancies, the illumination of the floors of exit access shall be at least 0.2 ft-candle (2.2 lux) during periods of performances or projections involving directed light.

B: Changes in elevation must be clearly marked or indicated by a change in color.

C: Floor beveled extrusion must be ramped at a slope no steeper than 1.2 ratio, 1/2" Height, (i.e.) Floor extrusions must taper to 0 in a minimum of 1"

D: Emergency lighting is required throughout the path of egress and must operate for a min. of 90 minutes. Areas such as stairs, aisles, corridors, ramps, escalators, and passageways must be illuminated to an average of 1 foot candle with a min. of 0.1fc of light measured along the path of egress at floor level.
